Bouldering is the type of climbing that doesn't require a harness, rope, or a climbing partner. Instead the climber uses padded mats on the floor to minimize the impact if a fall does occur. The climbs use the V Scale for grading, V0 being the easiest. The higher the number beside the V the harder the climb is.
You will need:
Climbing Shoes
Harness
Short Safety Orientation

To climb with an Auto Belay you will need to rent or own a harness, and climbing shoes. An Auto Belay is a climbing instrument that takes out slack automatically while the climber ascends. At any point during the climb should the climber let go or fall the auto belay will catch them and lower them slowly to the ground.
Before using the auto belay a short safety orientation is required to ensure you understand how to properly attach it to your harness.

Climbing Shoes
Harness
Belay Partner
Certification
Chalk and Chalk-bag (Optional)
Top rope requires a rope, harness, and belayer. Therefor it requires a bit more explanation and certification.
When climbing top rope your rope is tied to your harness, and hooked into a belayers belay device. The knots and certification for the belay device will be assessed at the gym, if you've never climbed before you may need to take a class on how to properly use the rope and belay device in order to climb on top rope.
Once on the wall the belayer takes the slack out of the rope with the belay device as the climber ascends. This allows for the climber to take a fall at any point safely.
You will need:
Climbing Shoes
Harness
Belay Partner
Climbing Rope
Certification
Chalk and Chalk-bag (Optional)
Lead Climbing requires you to tie one end of the rope onto your harness, the rope is then fed through a belay device a few feet down the rope from you. While you climb you attach the rope to hanging anchors in the wall, as you progress from anchor to anchor, the rope may be unprotected for many feet, if you fall you will fall below your last attached anchor the amount of feet you climbed above it. This can result in up to 10 foot falls.
You may bring your own rope or rent one from the facility. However we require that a staff member inspect your rope before you are allowed to use it in our gym.
Lead is the most advanced style of climbing at our gym, it requires an extensive certification to be able to climb. Classes are available to teach and certify you to climb on Lead at our gym.
If you already know how to lead climb there are time slots on our website where we are available to certify you during our business hours.
